Rob Siddle – Director, Principal Environmental Planner
Bachelor of Science (Environmental), Graduate Diploma in Urban and Regional Planning

Rob is the Director & Principal Environmental Planner for S5 Environmental with over 29 years’ experience in the environmental industry providing environmental planning, management and compliance advice and developing realistic and achievable environmental management solutions.

Rob has specialised in providing environmental expertise to Government (Local & State) and Private Clients in the Resources, Infrastructure & Commercial/Residential Development Sectors. Rob has extensive experience in Environmental/Ecological Assessments, Management, and Compliance for a range of development projects across these sectors.

Throughout his career, Rob has provided technical input and/or managed a diverse range of projects including Environmental Impact Assessment/Studies, Compliance and Approvals, Options Analysis and Master Planning projects, Ecological and Vegetation Assessments and Management, Rehabilitation and Revegetation Planning and Design, and Bushfire Assessments and Management Plans.

Simon Young Berryman – General Manager, Principal Contamination Management
Bachelor of Science (Geology), Masters Environmental Studies, CEnvP, MIEANZ

Simon is our General Manager and heads S5 Environmental’s Contaminated Land Division. He has over 20 years’ experience in environmental management, contaminated land assessment and hydrogeology and has successfully completed projects in Queensland, Victoria, the Northern Territory and New Zealand.

Simon has previously worked for a multinational environmental engineering company, as well as smaller, independent consulting firms and provided in-house specialist contaminated land advice to companies in the petroleum and electricity industries. This breadth of experience enables Simon to successfully apply his expertise to projects with varying levels of complexity while meeting project budget and time constraints.

Simon is a Suitably Qualified Person under the Environmental Protection Act 1994, a Certified Environmental Practitioner (CEnvP) and a member of both the Environment Institute of Australia and New Zealand (EIANZ) and the Australasian Land and Groundwater Association (ALGA).

Stacey Jaatinen – Lead Designer

Stacey is our Lead Designer with over 25 years’ experience in the consulting industry providing Civil and Environmental Design expertise to out projects. Stacey is a highly experienced AutoCad operator and manages the delivery of the range of plans and drawings produced in support of our projects. Stacey works with our Ecologists and Environmental Scientists on a daily basis ensuring project coordination and quality controlled plans are produced as part of deliverables for our clients.

Sussan Lemon – Senior Ecologist

Sussan is our Senior Ecologist with over 9 years’ experience in the environmental industry in both the private and public sectors. Sussan has been involved in numerous environmental assessments in the government, development, coal seam gas, mining, and linear infrastructure sectors on small to large scale projects. Sussan has gained valuable experience across a broad range of ecological disciplines, including aquatic, marine and terrestrial ecology; allowing her to apply her knowledge to gain a more complete ecosystem understanding. Sussan has a strong understanding of the suite of environmental legislation (state, federal and local) involved in assessing environmental requirements for a wide variety of projects. With these skills, along with experience working for regulators, multi-disciplinary consultancies, and proponents, Sussan has become proficient in identifying potential environmental constraints and providing ecological advice to achieve high quality outcomes.

Tessa Horgan – Senior Environmental Planner

Tessa is our Senior Environmental Planner with over 5 years’ experience in the environmental and town planning industry providing environmental management and compliance advice, and developing realistic and achievable environmental management solutions. Tessa has previously worked as a Graduate Ecologist and Ecologist with S5 Environmental, as well as within Local Government Development Assessment, whereby she side-skilled her expertise in town planning within central Queensland. Tessa has a strong knowledge and understanding across the environmental and town planning fields. This experience as both the consultant and regulator provides Tessa with a unique ability to understand project needs and deliverable requirements.

Tessa has strong flora and fauna identification skills and is experienced in leading site assessments within South-east Queensland, with further specialist knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Bushfire Hazard Assessments and Management Plans, Australian Standard AS 3959-2018 Bushfire Attack Level Assessments, project-specific application of Federal, State and Local Government legislation/s, vegetation community identification and Regional Ecosystems.

Tessa’s Key Areas of Expertise Include:

Chloe Hanrahan – Terrestrial Ecologist

Chloe is our Terrestrial Ecologist with over 5 years’ experience in the environmental industry, focusing on plant ecology and ecological consulting. Her early career focussed heavily on restoration and rehabilitation of natural areas, through exotic species identification and control.

As her career shifted into consulting, Chloe has played key roles in a vast array of projects which include eco-tourism, major infrastructure and renewable energy projects, and is experienced in compiling supporting documentation for Ministerial Infrastructure Designations and Development Applications.

Chloe calls upon her high degree of legislative understanding at the Federal, State and Local Government levels, and strong background in ecosystem process and flora knowledge, to achieve the best possible outcomes for clients and the environment.

Ronnie Gardiner – Restoration Ecologist
Bachelor of Science (Natural Resource Science)

Ronnie is our Terrestrial Ecologist with over 5 years’ experience in the environmental industry. His early career focused on restoration and landscape planting, having undertaken his honours focusing on plant survival and growth specific to restoration planting.

In working for S5 Environmental Ronnie has utilised his strong understanding of the restoration process to design and implement Rehabilitation Management Plans for a number of projects and is constantly questioning if there are areas where the rehabilitation process can be improved or adjusted to achieve the best outcomes for our clients. More recently Ronnie has also shifted his focus towards ecological consulting. Ronnie is proficient in understanding environmental legislation and has gained an array of experience in providing supporting documentation for a variety of projects.

Joanne Day – Environmental Scientist, Contamination Management
Bachelor of Environmental Science (Land Management)

Jo is a member of S5 Environmental’s Contaminated Land Division. She has over 5 years experience in the environmental industry including sampling, co-ordinating field teams on mining and private industry projects and currently enjoys working with the S5 team on contaminated land projects in Queensland.

Jo has a broad range of experience prior to focussing on contaminated land and has previously worked for a laboratory co-ordinating a sampling team, for mining companies in environmental approvals, stakeholder engagement, training, and administration plus Governments in quarantine and policing. Jo strives to use her experience to provide high quality contributions to projects.

Jo’s key areas of expertise include:

  • Sampling programs including soil investigations, surface water and groundwater monitoring;
  • Sampling and Analysis Quality Plans;
  • Due Diligence Site Investigations; and
  • Stage 1 Preliminary Site Investigations.

Cath Bowler – Terrestrial Ecologist

Cath is our newest Terrestrial Ecologist, recently completing her PhD in Ecology with a focus on applying mathematical and statistical modelling approached to improve invasive species management and inform restoration plans. Cath has a wealth of experience in ecosystem processes and ecological surveying, as well as extensive field work and project management throughout Queensland and Western Australia.

Cath has also completed several Bushfire Hazard Assessments utilising spatial modelling with GIS to identify and quantify actual hazards.

Cath’s key areas of expertise include:

  • Ecological Assessments;
  • Vegetation Management Plans;
  • Flora and fauna surveys (certified in BioCondition and Regional Ecosystem Assessment);
  • Interpretation of legislation pertaining to vegetation management; and
  • Facilitation of development approval and operational work processes.

Sean Vlok – Graduate Environmental Scientist

Sean is a recent Graduate and joins the Team at S5 Environmental as a Graduate Environmental Scientist. Since joining S5 Environmental, Sean has assisted our Ecological Team in the preparation of Preliminary and Detailed Ecological Assessments, Due Diligence reviews and Vegetation Assessments on range of sites for land development projects.

Alysha Woodland – Senior Environmental Engineer (Consultant)
Bachelor of Engineering (Environmental), Master of Engineering (Environmental), CEnvP, Member of Engineers Australia (EA)

Alysha is an senior Environmental Engineer with over 12 years’ experience in the government and private sectors. Most recently, Alysha has worked as a Environmental Consultant providing high level Environmental management and compliance advice and managing a range of planning and construction projects for Local and State Government and the private development sectors.

Alysha previously managed a team of environmental professionals within Project Services which is a business unit of the Department of Housing and Public Works. She has strong technical and leadership skills and has been the environmental officer for a broad range of projects with varying degrees of environmental sensitivity. She has also undertaken other project roles including Project Manager, Client Representative and Superintendent’s Representative.
